We are seeking an experienced full time Gardener to join our team in an ongoing capacity at Cuppacumbalong.

Cuppacumbalong is an historic homestead with established formal gardens and grounds, plus a kitchen vegetable garden and small orchard, with the scope to grow and develop into a larger productive concern.  Native plant species are also grown on the property.

You will be responsible to maintain the gardens and assist with the planning and overall development of the property.  This may include seasonal planting, weed management, some hard landscaping, plus manage the overall health of the gardens and grounds.

You will need to have a working understanding of planting and pruning as well as prior experience with mowers (both push and ride-on), brush-cutters, edgers, and general farm machinery.

The ability to self-manage your working schedules, be flexible and adaptive, and work both as part of a small team and independently is essential.

A certificate in Horticulture is preferred but not essential if an understanding of the industry can be shown through work history.

A driver’s licence is essential.

We work a flexible 5 day week, teaching on average two days a week, with the other time preparing for courses, production work and maintenance.  You get a full time salary + superannuation with bonus' paid for teaching classes.

We are looking for a full-time Workshop Assistant to join our team to support the running of our forge.

Duties will initially include:

  • Maintenance of workshop and machines
  • Manage stores and supplies for running classes
  • Metal fabrication work
  • Production cutlery fabrication
  • Assisting with preparation of classes

We are looking for a motivated, confident person who has a can-do attitude. The ideal applicant will have the following attributes:

  • Is good with their hands, experieced using tools
  • Has a good mechanical knowledge of how things work
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Is keenly interested in bladesmithing, blacksmithing, or metalwork
  • Lives within one hour of Tharwa
  • Has their own transport
  • Is prepared to commit to this role for the next three years
