Intro to Leatherwork - Book Covers
Learn the basics of traditional leatherwork through the process of covering a book. You’ll go home with a handcrafted book cover and journal along with the skills to make your own book covers to protect your own cherished books, diaries and notebooks.
Making your first leather book cover introduces you to essential techniques such as cutting, burnishing, stitching, stamping and more. Most importantly, you’ll learn how leather behaves as it is fitted around solid bodies. This means you’ll be able to make more of your own book covers, as well as covers and cases for objects with similar shapes such as a phone or tablet.
You’ll also pickup other fundamental leatherwork skills through personalising your leather book cover in clever and fun ways. This will provide you with the fundamental skills you need to branch out on your own into even more embellishment and design techniques.
This one-day course is taught in our fully-equipped leatherwork studio by one of our experienced leather workers. Asides from the skills and practice you’ll gain from the course, you also have the opportunity to ask an expert any questions you might have about starting out in leatherwork: sourcing supplies and tools, common beginner pitfalls, etc.
This course requires no previous experience. Our job is to guide, instruct, and help you turn accidents into successes.
